After a decorated 2025 season, which saw the team winning the SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division for the second year in a row and taking home the Women’s FAI Cup, Athlone Town have high hopes of bringing back more silverware in 2026.

The Midlanders will kick off their season with the Women’s President’s Cup fixture against Shelbourne on Sunday, March 8th, where they will look to win it for the second time in the last three years.

The defence of their SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division crown will commence on Saturday, March 14th against Sligo Rovers, away at The Showgrounds at 17:00. They will be hoping that an opening day win will set the tone for the campaign.

A successful off-season saw Athlone win all three of their friendlies with a 3-0 victory over Cork City showcasing their attacking talent with Dana Scheriff scoring on her return to the club.

To aid their bid to become the first club to win three league titles in a row, John Sullivan has made significant changes to the squad, such as appointing Hannah Waesch as captain and signing a number of notable players, including former Shelbourne forward Noelle Murray.

Athlone clearly have a winning mentality and extensive experience, so it will be crucial to use that to their advantage if they are to achieve more success in the 2026 season.
