Athlone Town won the 2025 SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division following a 4-0 victory over Cork City

Athlone Town became the fifth different team to retain the SSE Airtricity Women's Premier Division after claiming their 16th win of the season.

The Midlanders overcame Cork City 4-0 at Turner's Cross with Kayleigh Shine opening the scoring before Kelly Brady netted a hat-trick.

On the back of their extended run in European action, Athlone Town showed their class in this midweek fixture with interim Head Coach John Sullivan guiding them over the line.

The season started with an away win over Galway United and they only dropped points - albeit draws - on four occasions before facing Cork City in that decisive game. This meant that they retained the title with two games still to play.

It is a notable achievement for Athlone Town, who are also through to the 2025 Sports Direct Women's FAI Cup Final, and they deserve all plaudits that come their way.
