Forget about the history of the club, the expectations heading into a new season, the pressure of managing in the SSE Airtricity League, and his age, because Tommy Barrett knows exactly what he has signed up for.

Unveiled as the new Limerick manager, the 38-year-old is excited rather than fretful about what lies ahead in what is bound to be the most demanding role that he has handled in his career to date.

Stepping up from the club's Under 19 side, Barrett is in no doubt about the size of the challenge in front of him. He has proved himself to be a skilled coach at underage level, now he has the opportunity to do it on the biggest stage in the country.

“I am going into this job with my eyes open. It is a results-driven business That’s the nature of the game. You cannot be afraid of failure. If I am going in there and am afraid of failure, you can’t win the lotto if you don’t buy a ticket," said Barrett.

“I got to do what I got to do. I’m going to do my best. I want to win every game. Are we going to win every game? Probably not, but we might!

”We want to get a result in every game we play and we want to build that strong mentality in every game we play. It won’t be from lack of effort.

"Obviously it has always been an ambition of mine to be the manager, so I am happy to be it. I am probably the right age to be a manager, 38, going on 39, maybe a bit young, but I wouldn’t be the youngest in the league."
