Waterford FC manager Alan Reynolds says his side won’t get carried away despite getting their Premier Division season off to the perfect start with a 2-1 win over Derry City on Friday night at the RSC. Goals from Gavan Holohan and Dean O'Halloran saw the Blues come from 1-0 down to claim all three points on a night where numerous pitch inspections were needed after heavy rain in the city on Friday afternoon. “It’s a great night for the club, the supporters and all the volunteers that were on hand to ensure that the game went ahead because it was really touch and go for a while. It’s nice to get off with a win after going behind in the match. “It was brilliant that we were able to bounce back so I was happy with that end of it. There is a good group of players there but we’re not getting carried away with it. It’s only one win but it’s important to get the win under our belt and move onto next week." Despite the heavy rain and tough playing surface, Reynolds was delighted with the goals his team scored after coming from behind. “Gavan Holohan’s attitude is top drawer and his ability is just as good. I’m hoping that he has found his home here in Waterford. I’m delighted that he has got off to a good start like that with his goal but I’m looking for more of the same going forward. “It was a great winning goal on a pitch that wasn’t great. It was top class football and it was a goal that we deserved I think. Dean O’Halloran is a proud Waterford lad that has won the fans and what a night for him." Reynolds now has to prepare his side for a trip to Turners Cross to face league champions Cork City – a challenge they’re treating like anyone else. “We ask our players to perform to the maximum every game and that’s what we’re looking for. That’s what we got. It’s about rest now and recovery ahead of the game against Cork City next Friday night. “The lads will come back in Monday and we’ll get ourselves ready for that game. That’s what we ask for. It’s nice to have a Munster derby again to look forward too but we’ll treat them like anyone else. They are the champions, good luck to them, but that means nothing to us.”
