The race for Europe took another twist as Bohemians fell to a 2-1 defeat at home to Waterford, with Tom Holland scoring a brilliant winner with just five minutes remaining. The star of the show, and many people’s man of the match, was Bohs midfield sensation Ross Tierney. Diminutive in size, maybe, but battled and looked incredibly assured in possession and showed he has an eye for goal, grabbing the equalizer on the night. Sporting a chipped tooth and a bandaged knee, the dejected young star was obviously disappointed with how the evening panned out. “Obviously very disappointed with the result, but I thought we played well and had enough chances to get a draw or even win it on, but we gave away two very sloppy goals from our part.  "Even at underage if we conceded them goals we’d be really disappointed, so it’s tough to take I thought we deserved more.” Described by his manager as a “street footballer”, Tierney has often been deployed on the left or right wing but due to several injuries on the night, played deeper in the middle alongside Scott Allardice, and the talented 18-year old looked at right at home at this level, adding;  “Growing up yeah, I was playing as an “eight” but in this side my natural position is wherever Keith (Long) plays me and he knows I’ll give it my all.  "In the future, he said he see’s me in the centre but at the moment we have so many good and experienced players that can play there, I’m just delighted to be part of the first team really.” Tierney went on to show maturity beyond his years, giving s glimpse into the make up of his character, not just admitting his fault in the goal that led to the winner - somewhat harsh on himself admittedly - but reflecting on his performance and game as a whole, saying;  “Maybe the legs were going at that stage and should have tracked the run or got closer, if its in the first half I probably would have gotten there, but it was a great finish to be fair.  "But I’ll go and have a look at the game back, see where I can maybe improve my game, see what I did right or wrong and take that into the next game and go from there, hopefully bouncing back with a win on Monday against Crumlin in the FAI Cup.” Having come up through the ranks at Bohs, the Gypsie faithful know they have a gem on their hands, a real star in the making and looks to have a big future in the game. Definitely one to watch.
