After a thrilling 3-1 home victory over UCD, Shamrock Rovers may be seven points clear at the top of the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division table but experienced midfielder Greg Bolger, who knows what it takes to win league titles, isn’t taking anything for granted. “It is a great start but that’s all it is, a start. We can’t get too carried away with people building us up. We could get a knock and it is how you react.” 30-year-old Bolger, who already holds league medals from spells with St. Patrick’s Athletic and Cork City, is fully aware that no gongs are given out in March. “There are busy periods coming up now with league and cup games, and then Europe later in the season. We need to keep level headed. "You don’t know what is around the corner with injuries, suspension and form.” Bolger, who scored Rovers’ winner at Finn Park last week, was involved in Jack Byrne’s opener against the Co. Wexford native’s first League club, UCD. “There is a lot of quality in our squad,” purred Bolger. “I don’t think we are dependent on any one player,” Nine different players have been on the mark for Rovers so far this season. The Hoops dominated the UCD match for long spells but Bolger concedes that it won’t always be about the expansive football Rovers displayed against the Students. “There will be times down the road when we will need to dig in and it mightn’t be pretty at times. Dundalk are still the favourites and you can’t rule out Cork City as they have great players.” A trip to Turner’s Cross, familiar territory for Bolger, is next on the league assignment list for Rovers as they face Cork City next Friday. The Leesiders will be smarting from a 1-0 reverse against Dundalk at Oriel Park and will present a searching examination of Shamrock Rovers’ title credentials.
