After overseeing an incredibly dramatic 3-2 victory over Dublin rivals St. Patrick’s Athletic, Bohemians boss Keith long managed to just about catch his breath for a quick chat. A win that should see his side confirm their status in the SSE Airtricity League for next season.

“It was an enjoyable game, a great spectacle, especially for the neutral, maybe not so good for your heart, especially on the line for either manager!”

With another vital three points in the bag, which now sees the Gypsies sit sixth in the league and on 40 points, 10 points clear of the drop but the ever-professional Bohs boss refused to guarantee their safety just yet. “Nothing is guaranteed just yet. Galway and Limerick with their wins tonight get a little jump but it’s a big step forward for us for sure. We won’t be complacent though and we’ll go and try and win every game for the rest of the season, starting with a tough one away at Sligo next week.

Long was keen to praise his sides attacking prowess, which in recent weeks has seen them net seven goals in last two games. ”Long may it continue, we haven’t been the most prolific throughout the season but we have been working really hard in training on our attacking strategy and play over the last number of weeks.

“Our attacking play, in the first half in particular was top drawer. We had threats all over the pitch, from wide and the middle. We could have and maybe should have scored more. We were maybe hanging on towards the end and got away with one with Fagan hitting the bar but we had our chances too.”

Dan Byrne was tasked with filling the shoes of the suspended Oscar Brennan in midfield alongside Fuad Sule, and although used mainly as a centre back, Byrne performed more than capably in a less familiar role, echoed by his manager, “I thought he was good, Dan’s a decent footballer. He’s composed on the ball, passed it well and has a decent engine. I felt it was important (missing Oscar Brennan) that we had that physicality in the middle of the park and Dan’s more than that. I thought he put in a very decent performance tonight.”
