Credit should be shared out amongst many people at Waterford - from owner Lee Power to Pat Fenlon to Alan Reynolds to the players - for their excellent start to the 2018 season.

Reynolds has done a great job as manager, having instilled a toughness in his squad but also a style of play that is easy on the eye. The addition of Noel Hunt to the coaching staff should help them in the second part of the campaign.

The trio of Lawrence Vigouroux, Faysel Kasmi and Courtney Duffus have now departed and their loss will be keenly felt when the games get going again.

Mid-Season Rating: B+
For a team that was only promoted back to the top flight, Waterford have performed exceptionally. They made a great start and their diamond formation in midfield bamboozled many opponents, but they have proved that they can scrap and fight when it is needed too.

Best Player: Bastien Hery
We were given a hint of Heary's ability during his spell with Limerick last season, but the dynamic midfielder has stepped up a level this year. He is majestic with his passing, shrewd in his link-up play, and a real threat when in front of goal. On top of that, he has become a real leader for The Blues.

Most Promising Newcomer: Dylan Barnett
This Republic of Ireland Under-21 international may not have been one of the marquee signings made by Reynolds, however he has proved to be one of the most important. The left-back is composed when in possession of the ball, strong in his tackling, and clever with his support runs down the flank. He has potential to become a fan's favourite for years to come.

Area They Need To Strengthen: Bigger Squad
With Vigouroux, Kasmi and Duffus now gone, Reynolds needs to bring in replacements. They need a few extra players regardless, so this summer transfer window is crucial in their hopes of securing European football for next season.
