It was a case of what might for been for Cabinteely FC as they bravely bowed of out the Extra.ie FAI Cup at the hands of perennial finalists Cork City. A last-minute equaliser in the second period of extra time saw the Leesiders go through the last 16 on Friday at Stradbrook after a dramatic penalty shoot-out. “I’m around the game a long time, and the result is one of my biggest disappointments. We had the game over. Unfortunately, human error, somebody makes a mistake.  "They get back to 2-2. And we lose on penalties. But it was great performance by the lads. I was thrilled for them,” conceded Director of Football Pat Devlin. He added “I told them before the game - it’s called luck. And if the luck is not with you on Cup day; it goes against you. Cork got that bit of luck that they probably deserved in the end.  "We made a mistake and they capitalised on it. Best of luck to them in the next round.” Devo also revealed that he didn’t stay in the dug-out for the penalty shoot-out which the Rebels won 5-4. “I don’t ever watch penalties. So, I went into the dressing room. But of course, we were beaten. That will have to change as well. Next time it’s penalties, I’ll stay out.” Cabo will now revert their attentions to the SSE Airtricity League First Division and obtaining a top-four place to achieve their best ever finish in the lower flight. “The lads gave it everything. You couldn’t ask for more. That for us is good going forward. We have young players – 17-18-19-year-olds in our starting team. Overall, the future looks good for us,” enthused the veteran manager. He stressed: “We’re in fourth place. We have to get the head ups and moving again. We’ll be fine. They are great group of lads. A great bunch to work with.”
