Longford advance to the next round of the EA Sports Cup after a tame display at a rain-sodden City Calling Stadium.
Longford got their lead early on through Adam Evans. He ran in behind the away side's defence for Peter Hopkins through ball on the right wing.
Evans drew the Cockhill player manager out of his goal and dummied to shoot, making Gavin Cullen go to ground. Evans then fired his shot low into the back of the net.
Longford controlled much of the first half but failed to create any chances of note. However in the second half, Cockhill Celtic did grow into the game. The home side should of doubled their lead though five minutes into the second-half.
Hopkins was played in one-on-one with Cullen but fired his shot straight at the goalkeeper. Longford did have a couple more half chances but were unable to take them. On another night Neale Fenn's side mightn't get away with such sloppiness.
