Sligo Rovers skipper Kyle Callan-McFadden believes his side’s battling performances when up against the league’s better sides, means Bit O’Red supporters have plenty to look forward to this season.

Rovers travel to Finn Park on Friday having taken a point from Dundalk on the opening night, while conceding narrow losses to both Pat’s and Cork City.

McFadden’s goal mid-way through Monday’s game with the Rebels halved Cork’s advantage after Sean McLoughlin and a Gearoid Morrisey show stopper had given the Leesiders a two goal lead.

Rovers were unable to push on and find an equaliser. However the Ramelton man believes Liam Buckley’s charges have shown enough in the opening three games to prove they are a difficult team to beat.

“No team has come here and carved us open and it was the same in Dundalk”, he stated. “It’s been a beauty of a goal like the one tonight, or a set piece that’s beaten us.

“It’s only early yet in the year”, he continued. “We have to pick ourselves up now and go at Finn Harps on Friday.

“The effort is there and I think the fans can see that. They’ve been very supportive of us in our two home games and in Dundalk. They see the effort is there, it’s just stamping our style of play on things and getting that last bit to gel and come together for us.”

A visit to Donegal and a home game against recently promoted UCD follows Rovers’ tough start. But McFadden is only considering the journey back to his home county.

“Going up Ballybofey is always tough. They’ve done well so far but we just want to beat what’s in front of us and we won’t think of anything beyond that.”
