Shane Griffin believes confidence has now returned to the Cork City squad as they look to retain the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup when they take on Dundalk in the Final at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday the fourth of November. Following a difficult few weeks in which the Leesiders relinquished the league crown to the Lilywhites, John Caulfield’s men are now unbeaten in six games in all competitions winning their last four. City ended their league campaign with a comfortable 5-1 win against Bray Wanderers at Turner’s Cross on Friday night and speaking to reporters afterwards, Griffin set his sights on winning the FAI Cup for the third year in a row. “I think we had a spell there where we didn’t get results and our confidence was down,” admitted the left back. “When your confidence is down you might not do stuff that you would do when you are confident. I think the last weeks now we have built up good momentum and everyone’s starting to get better and better. “You can even see it in training people are expressing themselves more they’re more confident. It was a good way to finish. It was good to get a few goals for the fans who have been brilliant all season for us. “Everyone’s raring to go really and fighting for positions and I think it’s clear really, John has let it known that places are up for grabs so the performances are high. “Last year was my first time in the Aviva and at the cup final like I was feeling a bit nervous. I think in the game itself the first ten or fifteen minutes I was a bit nervous as well but I think that will stand to me this year. “I’m sure the rest of the lads know as well. They have been there the last three or four years as well so it’s almost like a second home for them in a way so it’s more excitement now this time and looking to do well. “We’re the cup holders so we’re looking at it that way. We’re going for three cups in a row so we're going to go in there thinking this is our cup we don’t want to give it away. “We’ll have great support again I’m sure coming up from Cork so we want to bring it back down with us again and celebrate with the fans.”
