It was a season of surprises for Bohemians as the club many tipped to be clear relegation favourites almost clinched a European place.

Keith Long's masterstroke in recruiting Trevor Croly as his No 2 paid dividends with the duo shaping a squad that proved to be competitive, creative and compelling - at times.

Long was able to bring the best out in Keith Ward again, to discover a few gems such as Warren O'Hora and Fuad Sule, and to win back the support of the Dalymount Park faithful.

The Gypsies played some nice football at times and picked up some big results - notably the win away to Cork City - but they were missing an x-factor at times and injuries hit them hard at important times.

Star Player: Fuad Sule

The Durcell batteries never ran out in this energetic midfielder as he covered so much ground that he should have been nicknamed 'The Lawnmower'. A terrific talent.

What They Need For 2018

A goalscorer: With Ismhail Akinade gone to Waterford, there is a vacancy up front that needs to be filled as Dinny Corcoran needs competition to stay on his toes.

Good Cup Run: Confidence comes with winning runs and a prolonged stay in either the EA SPORTS Cup or the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup would give the team, and the club, a huge boost.

Realistic Targets For 2018

Mid-table Security: A lot of teams around Bohs, such as Derry City, St Patrick's Athletic, and even Waterford, should be much stronger next season, so remaining in that middle pack would be an achievement.

Promotion of underage talent: Bohs have really adopted the Under 19, U17 & U15 tiers and they are unearthing some excellent players. Expect to see a lot of fresh faces in the senior squad in 2018.

Best Signing Made So Far
JJ Lunney: Not too many people will be aware of this ex-St Patrick's Athletic attacker but they will quickly learn all about his slick play once he gets a chance to display his neat footwork and range of passing.
