There has been plenty of progression at St. Colman's Park over recent seasons and Stephen Henderson's side continued to impress in the 2017 campaign.

Henderson managed the young side to second spot in the First Division, finishing eight points behind Champions Waterford. The season started strongly for the Ramblers with just one defeat in the opening six games, claiming impressive victories over Longford Town, Athlone Town and UCD.

It looked as though Cobh would be able to take the title challenge all the way with Waterford but mid-season defeats against Cabinteely, Shelbourne and Longford Town eventually caught up with Stephen Henderson's side.

With play-offs reintroduced for the 2018 season, Cobh will be buoyant coming into the season that they can mount a serious promotion challenge and build off the success of recent seasons.

Star Player: Cian Coleman

The former Cork City U19 player shone for Cobh after signing from the SSE Airtricity League Champions. Four goals throughout the season, his form saw him move to Premier Division side Limerick after the end of the season.

What they need for 2018

Experience: With the amount of young players in the side, Henderson might be looking to see if he can attract some experienced heads for what is always a long campaign.

Progression: The hope at Cobh will be that the young squad can continue to progress with the likes of Cian Leonard and Mikey Whelan highly thought of. They will need to find new levels if Cobh can claim promotion.

Realistic Targets for 2018

Play-offs: If Stephen Henderson can continue the good work last season, there is no reason why this Cobh side can't challenge for promotion. Play-offs would be the most likely route in a tough First Division.
