Alan Bennett admitted he feels privileged to be apart of this Cork City side which reached its fourth consecutive Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup final on Monday night.

The FAI Cup holders booked their trip to the Aviva Stadium on Sunday, November 4th as they defeated Bohemians 2-1 at Turner’s Cross in the semi-final replay.

First-half goals from Graham Cummins and Karl Sheppard helped the Leesiders earn their first victory in five games at the expense of a Bohs side, who responded in vain with an extraordinary second-half strike from defender Ian Morris.

Speaking to reporters shortly after full-time, Bennett was keen to stress the significance of reaching another FAI Cup final – where they will face Dundalk for the fourth time in a row – and believes it will be another tight affair with Stephen Kenny’s side.

“Look, for this club, I’ve followed this club since I was very young and to go to four finals is unprecedented, unprecedented,” enthused the 37-year-old defender.

“It’s never been seen before, hopefully, we will see a lot more of it in the future but for every Cork City fan across the country, the county, the world they have to appreciate this time and understand how massive it is for our club. It’s just an absolute pleasure to be a part of.

“Amazing, I’ve played all the cup games the whole way up so I was more than happy to step back in away to Bohs last week and again tonight (Monday).

“It (the final) will be a great occasion, it will be a great day the whole build up to it is amazing. Setting up, getting going, getting a new suit hopefully that’s nice yeah it’s a monumental time for this club and it’s just something that I am privileged to be a part of.

“History says it will probably be tight between us. It will be a very tight game, that’s the way it’s been so I can see that pattern continuing.”
