Waterford FC striker Courtney Duffus says that games can’t come quick enough for his side after scoring a brace in their 2-1 win against Shamrock Rovers.

Duffus, on loan from Oldham Athletic, scored goals either side of Graham Burke's equaliser for the visitors.

“It’s always nice to score two goals in any game but it’s even more special when it’s front of your home fans at the RSC. I’m delighted with the goals but it’s all about the result.

“Games can’t come quick enough for us when we’re winning and playing well,” Duffus said. “Every win is a huge win for us and every game is a huge game but we won’t be getting carried away and we’ll look forward to the game against Limerick next Friday.”

That win was the fifth in seven matches for Alan Reynolds side, and Duffus says the belief is there to continue to build on the result.

“We’ve got a real belief in the dressing room amongst ourselves and that’s important. I think that once we continue to work hard and give 100% each game then who knows what can happen for us. Everyone enjoys coming in every morning to training which is always a good thing.”

Duffus scored in the away match against Sligo Rovers, and was thrilled to add two further goals on Friday night.

“It’s all about the three points as far as we’re concerned so in that regard it’s a great night. I had a chance a few minutes before the first goal when I just missed the target so it was great to take the second chance that came my way. It was about getting the shot off as quick as I could and thankfully it went in.

“There’s not much that I can say about the second goal because that’s the way the game was going. They had ten men and I thought that we pressed them really well before we took the chance. I think that we looked dangerous every time we went forward in the first half so thankfully we were able to get two goals.

“The pitch was slippery with the rain so I think that any shot on target was going to cause a problem. There is a great buzz in the dressing room but we’re not getting carried away with the results that we’ve managed to get.”
