It took Sean Boyd just one full game to get off the mark for Longford Town as he scored during their 4-0 win over Galway United at the City Calling Stadium on Saturday night.

Two goals from Dean Byrne either side of Boyd's debut goal along with an injury-time header from Joe Manley gave Longford a vital three points in the promotion race.

Speaking after the game, the Shamrock Rovers loanee said he was delighted to be back in action and getting on the scoresheet for his new club.

“It's good to back playing games, I love it, you know, the feeling after, feeling sore, getting kicks, all that, I love it.

"Obviously, getting to score is a bonus, I thought I done alright, I really enjoyed it.”

The 22-year old knows that going from playing for Finn Harps in the first half of the season, fighting to stay in the Premier Division, to playing for Longford Town, who are fighting to go up into the Premier Division, is a unique challenge but one that Boyd says he hopes both clubs can achieve.

“Yeah it's different, it's completely different actually even if the end goal is the same you know but hopefully both clubs can be in the Premier next year.

"I enjoyed my time in Harps so I hope they will and the same for us here, but we'll see how it goes.”

After Saturday's victory over Galway, Longford sit in second, level on points with Drogheda and with a huge 'El Clasico' derby away to Athlone next week, Boyd admits that him and the team are taking each game as it comes.

“Listen, every game is the same really, I've played in derbies before you know, Rovers versus Bohs, them kind of games.

"Obviously, there's different build-ups but the fans want it more but us players have to take it the same as every other game."
