On the night that Cabinteely FC reached 40 points in a single SSE Airtricity League First Division season for the first time, Kevin Knight has only eyes up the table.
The versatile left-side player helped his team claim what could be a valuable point when holding the leading scorers in the section - Drogheda United - to a score-less draw on their own patch of United Park on Friday.
“I think a draw was a fair result. Anybody watching the match would probably agree. There were chances at both ends.”
On the teams record equalling ninth league clean sheet, he said “I think to come away from Drogheda with a point at this stage of the season, with the injuries and suspensions we have, is fair enough.”
Cabinteely have now gone eight matches undefeated since last May. And are very much in the play-off reckoning with five matches to go in the 2019 campaign.
“It’s always a great time to go unbeaten. Probably the best is towards the end of the season when you are trying to pick up as many points as your can. And finish strong” stated the ex-Leicester City trainee.
“We’re pushing for top-four. I don’t if we can catch Shelbourne. But we’ll give a real go. We’re pushing to finish as high as we can.”
The 26-year-old added, “We hope to just knuckle down and keep the run going. If we keep playing the way we’re playing, who knows where it will take us.”
It has been a remarkable home coming for the South Dublin club’s record appearance holder.
The former Irish U19 cap joined his boyhood side for the 2015 season, the club's first season of League of Ireland football.
And made his league bow in their first ever league match, a 1-0 home win over Wexford Youths in March 2015.
But departed to Longford Town ahead of the start of the 2019 First Division season.
Yet returned to Stradbrook at the start of this month.
Since then, the White and Greens have defeated Bray Wanderers 2-1; drawn with leaders Shelbourne 1-1 and overcame Longford 2-0.
“The lads have been great since I came back. Pat Devlin, his management team and back-room staff have been great too. I’m just happy to be back playing on the pitch.”
