Bohs fell to their second straight defeat at home, this time to reigning Champions Dundalk, in a hugely entertaining clash at Dalymount Park.
Over 3500 spectators witnessed an enthralling game as Dundalk ran out 2-0 winners, and missing a penalty in the process. A result that see’s the Lilywhites rise to the summit of the table. Goals from Georgie Kelly and a Sean Hoare header were enough to grab a hard fought three points as Keith Long’s men will reflect on a couple of missed chances that could have changed the tide of the game in the first half.
Bohs hitman, Dinny Corcoran could hide his frustration at the final whistle, saying: “Really disappointed with tonight, personally and as a group. Like last week, against Cork, we started too slow and took us going a goal down to get going.
"Against this quality of opposition you can’t afford that. I did think we responded well and had a couple of chances of our own through Danny (Mandroiu) but that slow start killed us and it’s something we must address as a group on the training pitch.”
It seemed a tale of two penalty decisions in the second half, both going against the home side. Firstly Danny Mandroiu looked to be bundled over by Sean Gannon, and a matter of minutes later substitute Luke Wade-Slater caught the flying Michael Duffy. Chris Shields had his penalty well saved by the outstanding James Talbot to keep the score at 1-0.
But Dinny, ever the diplomat, continued, “I’ll have to see them again if I’m honest, it did look like Danny Mandroiu was caught from behind. And from were I was, it looked the same thing for theirs but that one was given, but like I said, I’m not sure.
"But them decisions aside, I don’t feel as if we did enough to get anything from the game overall. The good start we had to the season has shown the potential we have within the squad and it’s more frustrating that were not quite getting to that level tonight and last week. We’ve no time to dwell on it as the big games keep coming and we’ll do our best for ourselves and the fans to put it right next week away at St. Pats but an improvement is needed.”
