Liam Buckley admitted his team are going to have to play a lot better if they are to avoid relegation this season after he watched his side concede a late goal during a 1-1 draw with Galway United at Richmond Park. Conan Byrne gave St Patrick’s Athletic the lead three minutes into the second half but the visitors laid siege to their goal with long balls and eventually squeezed the ball past Conor O’Malley in the 84th minute. “That is as bad as we have played this season I would say,” Buckley said after the game. “Looking at it, we never strung anything together in the second half and there wasn’t a lot in it, but the second half was very poor.” The draw sees Pats move up two places to ninth position in the league - with Galway still rooted to the bottom - but they remain in a precarious situation. “There is three points between about five teams and three of them are going down and if we play like that for the rest of the season we’ll be in serious trouble,” said Buckley. “There are still 39 points to play for and we are probably going to need at least half of them if not more to make sure we are out of the bottom three. There is still a lot to play for but there are no easy games in it. Galway are bottom of the table and we haven’t found it easy tonight.” Buckley also spoke about signings during the transfer window. “I’m definitely going to bring in one or two. We have to bearing in mind where we are at. It’s important all the boys we have here step up and we play as well as we possibly can. I said to them if we perform well you normally get the results. We were probably fortunate to get a point tonight bearing in mind how the second half went.”
