Cork City midfielder Steven Beattie has praised the form of team mate Sean Maguire and insisted he is not worried about the prospect of the club losing the striker before the end of the current campaign.

Maguire netted his fourth goal of the season as City came from behind to beat Sligo Rovers at Turners Cross on Monday evening to maintain their winning start.

And speaking to reporters after the match, Beattie, who was also on the scoresheet, admitted that the 22 year old hit man is destined for the very top but they are not concerned about losing him when the transfer window reopens this summer.

“No, Seanie loves it down here, he’s the sort of lad that wears his heart on his sleeve and if he says he’s staying then he’s staying so he’s not going anywhere I’ll tell you that,” enthused Beattie.

“He’s a phenomenal pro and a phenomenal fella, I can’t speak highly enough about him.

“I’ve been in many dressing rooms and his attitude is second to none, even us senior pros often look to him for inspiration when the going gets tough.

“He has a massive future in the game, you see the boys from Dundalk getting called up to the Ireland squad last year and I wouldn’t rule that out for Seanie, he’s destined to go to the top.

“He’s a natural finisher and they are very hard to find, we’re delighted he’s here, it was a blessing that he signed back and you can see we’re flying here and a lot of that is down to him.

“He’s sensational, he just needs a second and it’s a goal. When he’s one on one you just know he’s going to finish it, he’s the same in training every day.

“He’s the sort of young lad who finishes training but will stay out on the pitch an extra twenty minutes but people don’t see the hard work and the dedication that he has.

“He’s a phenomenal talent and I back him to go all the way, he has such a good career ahead of him.”
