Raffaele Cretaro’s testimonial on July 28th will be the perfect distraction to take his mind of Sligo Rovers’ relegation worries. The 36 year-old created the Bit O’Red’s goal in their 2-1 loss to Bray Wanderers on Sunday and it leaves the Connacht men with a cushion of eight points over the Seagulls. Gerard Lyttle’s men now have a chance to redeem themselves as they hit the road again on Friday to tackle Keith Long’s Bohemians and the Tubbercurry Tornado knows what a massive difference victory would make. “They’re hot on our heels (Bray & Limerick). There’s no denying that. We’ve got to pick up a couple of results. We’ve got to pick ourselves up and go again on Friday with a visit to Dalymount. “Bohs is a six-pointer. We know going there that we need three points. Anything less than that won’t be good enough for us. We had hoped for six points from these games (Bray and Bohemians). That didn’t happen so we now we have to make up for it in the next one. “I don’t think any team is too good to go down. We’re going to keep fighting and next week is a big game. You go into Dalymount looking for three points and I think three points there would get us well up. Without being disrespectful to Bray or Limerick or anyone else, three points down there would make a massive difference.” There will be a tad less emphasis on the result on July 28th when Sligo Rovers legends near and far return to the Showgrounds to toast their former team-mate. Despite a forthcoming testimonial and a 37th birthday by the end of 2018, Cretaro has no intentions of hanging up the boots anytime soon. “It’s great to get honoured by the club and to bring a couple of players back that I would’ve played with over my career with Sligo will be nice. I’m looking forward to it in a different regard – it’ll take my mind away from the league and everything else that’s going on. It is nice to get rewarded by the club and hopefully we have a great day out. “It’s very, very early yet but I train every day and I feel good. I’m still able to get about the park. I feel I still have a lot to offer so I’d definitely be thinking of playing another year without a doubt unless something happens between now and the end of the year.”
