Limerick remain unbeaten during Willie Boland’s tenure as Interim Manager after Rodrigo Tosi’s last minute strike earned the Shannonsiders a 1-1 draw away to Shamrock Rovers at the Tallaght Stadium.

Boland expressed his satisfaction with the result. “It keeps us up there in the fourth place. We have to be pleased.”

“I’m delighted for the lads - they put a decent amount of effort in tonight. I thought we were by far the better side and the draw was the least we deserved. We went behind but we didn’t let our heads drop. We dominated the second half and got a result in the end.”

Domination or not, it didn’t look like Limerick were going to score. An astute switch after a late substitution worked out well for Boland’s men. John O’Flynn came off the bench to join Tosi up front. The change almost worked immediate dividends when the veteran No. 9 set-up his colleague for a ten-yard shot, which cannoned to safety off Rovers scorer Roberto Lopes.

That was in the 86th minute. Just four minutes later, Tosi finished off Chiedozie Ogbene’s low centre from the right. Ogbene had been played through by another substitute Christian Hery. Boland recognised one more key contribution from the wily O’Flynn. “John O’Flynn made a great run and dummied the ball.”

Boland also praised his Brazilian striker whose scoring rate has understandably dropped off from his season opening hat trick. “It is a good boost,” said the manager of the late, late strike. “He made a great start to the season. He’s picked-up a goal here and there. He’s good in the air, which is a help at set pieces.”

“We deserved a goal at that stage,” reflected Boland. On the back of their third 1-1 draw in a row, his side move on to yet another away fixture, at the Showgrounds next week against Sligo Rovers.
