It may be a brand new season but it was two of Liam Buckley's old reliables, Conan Byrne and Christy Fagan, that earned St. Patrick's Athletic their first victory of the season on Friday.
The maiden success is always a relief and Buckley felt the points were deserved - even if he thought his side's opening goal wasn't going to hit the net.
"Delighted just to get that one under the belt", he sighed. "Bearing in mind, we've half a new group. I think that we did enough to win tonight bearing in mind the way the game went. I felt we probably had a bit more of the play and the better chances.
"Last week, we were bitterly disappointed not to get something out of the Cork game especially the way the game went but it was nice to get the win.
"Conan's shot; I thought it was going to (hit) the bar from where I was so for it to go in was great. For Christy, Dean Clarke did really well down the left and put that ball. We've let them back in at 1-2 and we'll always be that little nervous in relation to getting a draw or whatever but I'm happy to have gotten the three points."
Fagan was withdrawn six minutes into the second period but Buckley reveals that it was as a precautionary measure to ensure he's fit for Monday's trip to Waterford - a fixture that Buckley isn't taking for granted.
"It'll be a tough game on Monday. We can address that on Monday and if we can get something out of the that game, it wouldn't be a bad start.
"Looking at their squad of players (and) looking around at all the squads - everyone seems to have strengthened up. I've no doubt - they're at home - we're going to have to try and pick up something. From our end of it, we've got to go and get results in these places if we want to get to the next level."
