Waterford are the 2017 SSE Airtricity League First Division champions and you can hardly move in the city without someone mentioning it.

The Blues were favourites to finish on top and that is exactly what they have achieved, so it is hardly surprising that the crowds have started to flock back to the RSC.

Over the course of the season, attendances have increased massively for Waterford but manager Alan Reynolds feels there is still room for growth.

“With the new owner coming in and Pat (Fenlon) coming in, that caught the imagination of everyone," Reynolds told The Irish Sun.

“The city got behind the team and we grew from there. We played Athlone in a league game and we had 2,000 at it. I was thinking, ‘Imagine what you could add if that was Cork, Shamrock Rovers or Dundalk’.

“It feels like there is a buzz about the place again. The city has been starved of success for so long and nearly going out of business last year, it was special for everyone.

“But everything has changed. Pat is building a new club, he’s running it from top to bottom and a lot of what we’ve done is down to him.”
