The man is on fire! Conan Byrne was clearly the man of the moment after St Patrick's Athletic cruised to a 4-0 win over Bohemians.

Not only did the Dubliner net a brace, including a wonder goal for the first, but he joined an exclusive club of League players to have scored 100 goals - thus cementing his place in the history books.

When asked about the goal of the season contending strike, which will inevitably draw comparisons to “that” goal that put David Beckham on the world stage.

On the stroke of half-time, the winger spotted Bohs keeper Shane Supple off his line, and from in his own half, hit a glorious strike that sailed into the back of the net. When asked about the comparisons he joked: “Isn’t Dalymount a bigger pitch?”

Byrne was quick enough to acknowledge that it was the same goal that he drew inspiration from when hitting the games second goal, stating: “I remember being around 10, 11 or 12 watching Beckham do it and always had it in my head that I wanted to do it one day. I always look at the keeper in the first couple of minutes to see were they stand, so I looked up and saw him off his line and thought ill give it a go here and see what happens and thankfully today it worked out.”

Not only was it an incredible effort, it coincided with the St Pat’s man's 100th goal in the SSE Airtricity League. Understandably delighted he said: “Not only to do that but to get my 100th goal, in a stadium like that, steeped in history, was great, I cant put it into words”.

The man of the match’s two goals, sandwiched between Christy Fagan’s opener and ex-Bohs man Kurtis Byrne’s late goal, took his tally to 101 goals overall and the ambitious Swords native was instantly looking up the table following two very impressive Dublin Derby wins in a row.

Speaking humbly on both his and the team’s ambition, “Europe, that’s still what we want to do is to achieve Europe along with doing well in the cups and nothing will change from that. No personal aims because its all about the teams aim and were all in this together with Europe the number one priority.”
