Despite the last gasp winner from Dundalk, Sligo captain Kyle Callan-McFadden took comfort from the fact that his Sligo teams performance was something to work and build on coming into a busy period in the SSE Airtricity League season.

“It was a good performance but at this stage of the season all that matters is results but its definitely a performance we can build on now against Pat’s on Tuesday.

“We tried something new today in the first half and I thought it worked well, but Paddy (McClean) went off injured so we shuffled the pack a bit more, we took a lot of positives out of that performance but the only negative was to concede so late on.”

The Sligo captain was full of praise for Dundalk but knows taking positives from Sligo’s performance in particular their style of play will hopefully reap the dividends in order to propel them further up the table. Hard work, determination with a little bit of luck is the name of the game now for Gerard Lyttle’s side.

“I reckon so but Dundalk aren’t up there battling for the title for no reason they know how to win games, the same as the most top two to three teams up there. We just got to keep digging in and hopefully the rub of the green will come our way. But as I said we can take positives from that performance today.”

Next up for Sligo is a tricky trip to Inchicore where St. Patricks Athletic will be in full confidence following a 1-0 over Limerick. With the changes in the style of play coming into force against Dundalk, will Gerard Lyttle deploy the same tactic against the Saints?

“I am not sure but thats what the gaffer is paid for to make the decisions, we have a day off tomorrow then we will review things and look at it and take it from there.”
