Cork City manager John Caulfield has dedicated the club's SSE Airtricity League Premier Division title success to the supporters.
The Leesiders' goalless draw with Derry City at Turner's Cross on Tuesday night was enough to earn the club the point they needed to secure their third ever League crown and their first since 2005.
Speaking shortly after full-time, Caulfield praised his side for securing the title but was keen to pay tribute to the supporters of what he describes as the “biggest club in Ireland.”
“It’s been a phenomenal season. You look at Dundalk were going for four in a row and other teams were looking to give it a rattle," said Caulfield.
“But I always felt from the Cup Final last year that we had the confidence in the group that know how to win big games and I felt at the start of this season that we would be close.
“I know the expectations, I know what Cork City and county is like, I know the enthusiasm from the supporters but when you’re reading that you’re champions-elect in August it does have an effect on players.
“It’s the biggest club in Ireland by a long shot. (Shamrock) Rovers might have the trophies and their history shows that but in terms of support, coverage, on the ground, everyone in this club is known by the city and county.
"Everywhere they walk, everywhere they eat, and people are telling them what to do. They’re heroes.
“To win a League tonight with two games to go, the lads deserve enormous credit. They deserved this but ultimately it’s about the community and the supporters.
“That’s why it’s fantastic for everyone to go away happy tonight.”
