The Dubliner featured in the SSE Airtricity League last season with Dundalk following a number of years in England with clubs such as Chelsea, Portsmouth and Southend United.
However, he has been out of action since late last year due to a FIFA suspension following betting offences. That period has been served and he is eager to get going again.
Clifford's arrival will be a timely boost for Blues boss Tommy Barrett, who is keen for his team to kick on following an inconsistent start to the season.
