11th June 1960: Dave Henderson was born on this day in Dublin. Henderson had an extensive League of Ireland career having made 422 league appearances. The goalkeeper started his career at Shamrock Rovers in 1978 and had loan spells with Toronto Blizzard and the Vancouver Whitecaps. He moved to St. Patrick's Athletic in 1981 and after three years, he moved to Home Farm. He had a short spell at Drogheda United before moving back to Pat’s for four years. He won the title with Pat’s in 1990, his only league title. He had a short spell with Shamrock Rovers before moving to Bohemians for six years until 1998 when he retired.

11th June 1972: The Republic of Ireland secured a 2-1 win over Iran in the Brazil Independence Cup. It was Ireland's first win in 20 matches, the previous victory coming in November 1967 against Czechoslovakia in Prague. Iran took the lead through Ghelickani (10) but goals from Mick Leech (63) and Don Givens (67) secured the win in the Santa Cruz Stadium, Recife.

11th June 1990: The Republic of Ireland played their first match in World Cup Finals history against England in 1990 in the Stadio Sant'Elia, Cagliari. Gary Lineker (8) gave England the lead early on but Kevin Sheedy (72) smashed the ball home to secure a crucial point in Group F.

11th June 1995: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 3-1 defeat to Austria at Lansdowne Road. The defeat dented Ireland’s hopes of qualifying for the UEFA EURO 1996 Championships as Ray Houghton's (67) goal saw Ireland take the lead but Toni Polster (69, 78) and Andreas Ogris (72) scored to secure victory for the Austrians.

11th June 2000: The Republic of Ireland secured a 2-0 win over South Africa in the US Cup at the Giants Stadium in New York. Benni McCarthy (14) put South Africa ahead before Stephen McPhail (24) equalised direct from a corner. Niall Quinn (80) secured the win late on with his 20th international goal which made him the all-time Irish leading goalscorer at the time.

11th June 2002: The Republic of Ireland secured their second round spot at the 2002 World Cup with victory over Saudi Arabia. Robbie Keane (7), Gary Breen (61) and Damien Duff (87) goals sealed the impressive victory at the International Stadium in Yokohama in front of 65,320.

11th June 2003: The Republic of Ireland secured a comfortable 2-0 win over Georgia at Lansdowne Road. Gary Doherty (43) and Robbie Keane (59) scored goals either side of the break in the UEFA EURO 2004 Championships qualifying match.

11th June 2013: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 2-0 defeat to Spain in an international friendly at the Yankee Stadium in New York. In front of 39,368 in New York, Roberto Soldado (68) and Juan Mata (88) scored the goals for Vicente Del Bosque’s team.

11th June 2014: The Republic of Ireland suffered a heavy 5-1 defeat to Portugal in an international friendly at the MetLife Stadium. James McClean (62) scored the only goal of the game for Ireland.

11th June 2017: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw against Austria at the Aviva Stadium. Martin Hinteregger (31) gave Austria the lead from a well-worked corner routine but Jonathan Walters (85) secured a point late on in the 2018 World Cup qualifier.
