He was with Waterford for 10 years, staying with the club when they were relegated to the First Division. Reynolds was signed by Stephen Kenny for Longford Town for one season before moving to Cork City. He also had a short spell at Shamrock Rovers before moving back to Waterford where he was player-manager for a spell and guided the Blues to the FAI Cup Final in 2004. Short spells with Shelbourne and Shamrock Rovers followed before retiring in 2007. Having worked as an FAI Development Officer, he was given the Waterford manager's position for the second time in 2017 and won the First Division title in his first season. Reynolds has guided Waterford to a fourth-place finish and maintained their Premier Division status since.

Mick McCarthy also received his marching orders due to his protests but this decision was rescinded on appeal.
