13th June 1979: Alan Quinn was born on this day in Dublin. He played his schoolboy football with Cherry Orchard and Manortown United before embarking on a career across the water. He made 329 League appearances scoring 30 goals with Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland (loan), Sheffield United and Ipswich Town. He is the only player to have scored for both clubs in a Sheffield derby. Quinn won eight caps for the Republic of Ireland between 2003 and 2007 making his debut against Norway at Lansdowne Road in April 2003 and was a member of the victorious Under 18 European Championship side in 1998. His younger brother, Stephen, is also a senior international player.

13th June 2015: The Republic of Ireland drew 1-1 with Scotland in UEFA EURO 2016 qualification match at the Aviva Stadium. The attendance was 49,063. Jonathan Walters put Ireland ahead in the 38th minute but an unfortunate own goal from John O’Shea nine minutes later gave Gordon Strachan’s team a point.

13th June 2016: The Republic of Ireland opened their UEFA EURO 2016 Finals campaign with a 1-1 draw with Sweden at the Stade de France in Saint-Denis, Paris. After a goalless first-half, Wes Hoolahan put Ireland ahead in the 48th only for an unfortunate own goal from Ciaran Clark in the 71st minute allowed the Swedes to secure a draw. The attendance was 73,419.
