17th June 1909: Dickie Lunn was born on this day in Lurgan, Co. Armagh. Dickie was known as the 'Mighty Atom' due to his small stature and weight. Lunn made two appearances for the Republic of Ireland in 1938 against Switzerland, for his debut, and Poland. Lunn was best known for his time at Oriel Park with Dundalk having made 172 appearances for the Lilywhites in five seasons. He sadly passed away on 26th December 1980.
17th June 1972: Barry O'Connor was born in Dublin. O'Connor made 395 appearances in the league and scored 107 goals. O'Connor had spells at Shamrock Rovers, Shelbourne, Drogheda United, Cliftonville and Bray Wanderers before signing for Kildare County in 2003. He finished his career at Kildare in 2005.
17th June 1990: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 0-0 draw against Egypt at the Della Favorita Stadium in Palermo, Italy in the second of their 1990 World Cup Finals group matches. The attendance was 33,288. Ireland were unchanged from the team that drew 1-1 with England six days earlier but Niall Quinn made his first appearance in the tournament as an 84th minute substitute for Tony Cascarino.

Buckley started his career with Bohemians in 2010 and was a consistent performer for the club until his form attracted the attentions of Bray Wanderers in 2016. He only stayed one season at the Carlisle Grounds before he returned to Bohemians in 2017. He has been one of the star players for the club since returning and helped the club return to European football in 2019.
17th June 1992: Roberto Lopes was born in Dublin on this day. Lopes started his career with Bohemians in 2010 and made over 140 appearances for the Gypsies, scoring three goals. He made the move across the river to Shamrock Rovers in 2017 and he has been a huge success with the club. He has already made over 90 appearances for the club, scoring nine goals and he was part of the team who won the FAI Cup in 2019. His form attracted the attentions of the Cape Verde national team, who he qualifies for through his father. He made his international debut in a 2-0 win over Togo in 2019.
