19th June 1954: Paul McGee was born on this day in Sligo. McGee had an incredible career with none other than 16 different clubs over the course of a 22-year career. He started his career with his hometown club Sligo Rovers before spells with Kidderminster Harriers, Finn Harps (winning the FAI Cup in 1974) and Toronto Italia. He returned to Sligo Rovers in 1975 and his goalscoring form continued with Sligo as well as playing for Montreal Castors in Canada. Moves to Preston North End, Queen’s Park Rangers, Burnley and Dundalk followed before a number of short stays at a variety of clubs. McGee caught the eye once again at Galway United in 1985 and his performances in the UEFA Cup against FC Groningen earned him a move to the Eredivise with FC Haarlem. After returning to the league, he retired in 1994 at Finn Harps with 143 league goals to his name. He made 15 appearances for the Ireland national side between 1978 and 1980, scoring four goals including scoring after only twelve minutes on his debut against Turkey at Lansdowne Road in April 1978.

19th June 2004: Cork City secured an impressive 3-1 win over Malmo in a UEFA Intertoto Cup First Round First Leg match played at Turner’s Cross. John O'Flynn (10) gave the Leesiders the lead before Dan Murray (35, 61) scored before and after the break to secure the win. Darko Lukanovic (85) scored the only goal of the game for a Malmo side which included future Brazilian international and Middlesbrough forward Afonso Alves.
