6th June 1966: Dave Hill was born on this day in Nottingham. Hill made 327 appearances in the English Football League with Scunthorpe United, Ipswich Town, Lincoln City and Chesterfield before moving over to the League of Ireland in 1995 with Cork City. He spent five seasons with the club, winning the FAI Cup and League Cup double in the 1998/99 season, before moving to Bohemians. In his first season at the club, he won a league and cup double with the Gypsies. After spending one more season at Dalymount Park, he joined Cobh Ramblers as player-manager. He rejoined Ramblers in 2009, managing the club for five years until 2014. Overall, he made 194 league appearances and now works as an FAI coach.

6th June 1973: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw against Norway at the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. Former Bohemians and Shamrock Rovers manager Sean Thomas was in charge for the match, his only match as interim manager as Liam Tuohy had stood down after the previous match. Eamonn Fagan of Shamrock Rovers was awarded his debut as Miah Dennehy (17) gave Ireland the lead before Hans Edgar Paulson (69) equalised. Norway were managed by Englishman George Curtis.

6th June 1977: David Connolly was born on this day in Willesden, London. The former striker made his debut in 1996 during his time at Watford against Portugal and went on to make 41 appearances for Ireland, scoring nine goals including a hat-trick against Liechtenstein. He had an impressive English Premier & Football League career with spells Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wimbledon, West Ham United, Leicester City, Wigan Athletic, Sunderland, Southampton and Portsmouth. He also played for Feyenoord and Excelsior in the Eredivise.

6th June 1988: Anthony Pilkington was born on this day in Blackburn, England. Pilkington currently plays for Wigan Athletic having previously had spells at Cardiff City, Norwich City, Huddersfield Town and Stockport County. He has made nine appearances for Ireland having made his debut against Sweden in a World Cup qualifying match at the Aviva Stadium in September 2013. He scored his only goal for Ireland in a 4-1 win over the USA at the Aviva Stadium in November 2014.

6th June 2000: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw against the USA in the US Cup at the Foxboro Stadium in Boston. Dominic Foley gave Ireland the lead in the 31st minute before Ante Razov (68) equalised after the break. The match saw Gareth Farrelly make his sixth and final appearance for Ireland.

6th June 2001: The Republic of Ireland recorded a 2-0 win over Estonia in a World Cup qualifier at the Lilleküla Stadium in Tallinn. A straight-forward victory, Richard Dunne (8) and Matt Holland (39) had the match wrapped up before half-time as Andy O'Brien made his debut in the coming on in the 89th minute for Damien Duff.

6th June 2009: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw in a World Cup qualifier at the Vasil Levski National Stadium in Sofia against Bulgaria. Richard Dunne put Ireland ahead in the 24th minute before Dmitry Telkiyski equalised five minutes later.
