1st May 1977: Dundalk defeated Limerick by 2-0 in the FAI Cup Final at Dalymount Park. Terry Flanagan (23, 78) scored both goals in what was the first of Jim McLaughlin’s six managerial victories in the FAI Cup.
1st May 1988: Dundalk defeated Derry City by 1-0 in the FAI Cup Final at Dalymount Park. The winning goal came from a penalty scored by John Cleary in the 20th minute of the match to complete the League and FAI Cup double for Turlough O’Connor’s side.
1st May 1994: Sean Maguire was born on this day in Luton, England. Maguire grew up in Kilkenny and started his career with Waterford United. In his first season, he scored 14 goals in 32 matches and his form attracted the attention of West Ham United. During his time at West Ham United, Maguire moved on loan to Sligo Rovers and Accrington Stanley. He was released in 2015 and joined Dundalk but he failed to make an impact at Oriel Park. Maguire moved to Cork City and his form was sensational for the Leesiders. His crowning moment came at the Aviva Stadium when he scored the last-minute winning goal in the 2016 FAI Cup final against Dundalk. Maguire joined Preston North End in August 2017. He made his Republic of Ireland debut against Moldova at the Aviva Stadium in October 2017 and currently has eight caps, with one goal which was against New Zealand at the Aviva Stadium last November.

1st May 1955: The Republic of Ireland defeated the Netherlands by 1-0 in a friendly match at Dalymount Park. Waterford’s Jack Fitzgerald who was making his international debut scored the only goal of the game in the 79th minute of the match.
1st May 1985: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 0-0 draw against Norway in a World Cup qualifying match played at Lansdowne Road. Former Denmark manager Age Hareide played the full 90 minutes for Norway.
