27th May 1969: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 2-0 defeat to Denmark at the Idraetsparken in Copenhagen. Ole Sorensen scored in each half (39, 67) to secure the win in the World Cup qualification match as Don Givens made his international debut. Shelbourne's Billy Newman made his first and only international appearance, replacing Johnny Giles.

27th May 1982: The Republic of Ireland suffered the heaviest defeat in their history, a 7-0 defeat against Brazil. It was the first match played at the newly constructed Parque do Sabia in Uberlandia and was attended by a still record 80,000 spectators. Socrates (53, 73) and Serginho (64, 75) scored two each and Falcao (32), Luizinho (68) and Zico (78) also found the net in the resounding victory that was part of the ill-fated tour of South America.

27th May 1986: The Republic of Ireland secured a 1-0 win over Czechoslovakia at the Laugardalsvollur in Reykjavik. Frank Stapleton scored the only goal of the game in the 82nd minute as Ireland won the triangular Icelandic Tournament under Jack Charlton. It was Michael Robinson's 24th and final appearance for Ireland as it was for Shamrock Rovers' Pat Byrne, who won his eighth and final cap and Mick Kennedy won the second of his two caps. Niall Quinn made his first start for the national team.

27th May 1990: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 0-0 draw against Turkey at the Atatürk Olympic Stadium in Izmir. It was one of the 1990 World Cup warm-up matches as Jack Charlton's Ireland prepared for the tournament. It was Gary Waddock's 21st and final appearance for Ireland as the Millwall midfielder did not make Jack’s 22-man squad for Italy.

27th May 2004: The Republic of Ireland secured a 1-0 win over Romania at Lansdowne Road in an international friendly. Matt Holland secured the narrow victory in the 85th minute as Martin Rowlands made his international debut.

27th May 2016: The Republic of Ireland were held to a 1-1 draw against the Netherlands as part of their preparations for UEFA EURO 2016. Shane Long put Ireland ahead in the 30th minute but Luuk De Jong equalised for the visitors five minutes from time in front of 42,438 at the Aviva Stadium.
