30th May 1948: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 2-1 defeat to Spain at the Montjuic Stadium in Barcelona. Tommy Moroney (24) of West Ham United scored on his debut to put Ireland ahead before the only goal for Ireland as Silvestre Igoa (36, 72) scored a match-winning brace in the international friendly. It was to be Moroney’s only goal in his twelve international appearances.

30th May 1951: The Republic of Ireland secured an impressive 3-2 win over Norway in the Ullevaal Stadium in Oslo. Odd Wang Sorenson (14) put the home side ahead before Peter Farrell (17) equalised. Ragnar Hvidsten (55) put the home side back in front but Alf Ringstead (67) and substitute Paddy Coad (82) both scored in the second-half to secure the win. Tommy Clinton (Everton) and Tim Cuneen (Limerick) both made their international debut with Cuneen, in his only appearance, having to be substituted through injury in the 42nd minute.

30th May 1971: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 4-1 defeat to Austria in a European Championship match at Dalymount Park. Jimmy Holmes, who played for Coventry City at the time, made his debut at the age of 17 years & 200 days to become (and still is) Ireland’s youngest ever international. St. Patrick's Athletic’s Noel Campbell and Fulham's Jimmy Dunne also made their debuts, Dunne's only appearance for Ireland. Eamonn Rogers scored the only goal of the game for Ireland in the 49th minute.

30th May 1982: The Republic of Ireland played their final match of the ill-fated tour of South America, a 2-1 defeat to Trinidad and Tobago in the Arima Stadium in Port of Spain. Liam Brady scored Ireland's only goal of the game as Limerick's Johnny Walsh made his first and only appearance for Ireland. Mick Fairclough (2), Sean O’Driscoll (3) and Eamonn Deacy (4) all made their final international appearance in this match.

30th May 1992: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 3-1 defeat to the United States in the US Cup at the RFK Stadium in Washington. Mick McCarthy scored the opener in the 53rd minute but the US replied through Marcelo Balboa (55), Tabare Ramos (70) and John Harkes (87) to secure the win.

30th May 1996: The Republic of Ireland rescued a 2-2 draw in an international friendly against Croatia at Lansdowne Road in front of 29,000 spectators. Davor Šuker, who would be the UEFA European Championships top goalscorer a month later, opened the scoring in the 19th minute before Keith O'Neill replied in the 24th minute. Zvonimir Boban scored on the stroke of half-time but captain Niall Quinn scored in the 89th minute to rescue the draw.

30th May 2000: The Republic of Ireland suffered a 2-1 home defeat to Scotland at Lansdowne Road. Mark Kennedy put Ireland ahead in the second minute before Don Hutchinson (15) equalised and Barry Ferguson (27) scored what would prove to be the winner. It was Stephen McPhail's and Dominic Foley’s first appearance in an Ireland shirt.
