SSE Airtricity League Premier Division side Derry City have announced the signing of Rory Hale from Galway United.

The Republic of Ireland U21 international has impressed since his move to the SSE Airtricity League in July, scoring his only SSE Airtricity League goal in the 4-3 defeat against Dundalk in the final game of the season.

The former Aston Villa midfielder has now signed a one-year deal with the Candystripes as they look to bolster their squad ahead of the 2018 season after Barry McNamee left the club to sign for Champions Cork City.

Belfast-born Hale is the grandson of legendary Dundalk and Derry City striker Danny Hale who played for the Candystripes between 1967 and 1971, and who also scored a post-war record of 45 goals in his first season with the club.
