Longford Town midfielder Aodh Dervin was in great form following his side's 3-0 victory over Cabinteely, with the local star delighted to get an unexpected break in the first team.

“I wasn’t expecting it, I was just coming in training and doing my bits and then when I got the call in I said I’d make sure I take it so it’s going well. Glad to get the win as well.”

Dervin stated how he feels much more of a bond with the team-mates this season as opposed to last season, as training with the first team has enabled him to gel with fellow players.

“You feel a lot more part of the team this year. Playing games with the u19s, training with the u19s like it’s not full time and you can see a greater bond with the lads and everything so I know them better this year then I did last year.”

Dervin expressed his belief that other local talent can make it in the first team with Longford Town, with himself and Tristan Noack-Hofmann coming through the grades to make it in the first team.

“There’s no reason why other lads can’t do it. It’s hard work and if you put in the hard-work there’s no reason why you can’t do it, you’ll get in there eventually.”

Dervin stated how promotion was now the main target for his side, with Premier Division football a real possibility for Neale Fenn’s charges.

“That’s the aim now this year to get up to the Premier Division. We got a good result tonight. They were off a good result as well so that’s a good win tonight and a win that’s going to count at the end of the season.”

Longford Town were impressive in victory tonight, playing some very attractive football on route to a comfortable victory.
