Pat Devlin believes it’s a learning process for Cabinteely FC as momentum builds for the 2019 season.

The South Dublin side registered the first-ever victory over Galway United which was also their first home success in the First Division this term.

“I was really pleased because we weren’t bullied. I thought last week against Limerick we were. It was great to get the three points. I think in the overall context of the game, we deserved it,” he stated.

It’s now just one defeat in their last five League outings for Cabo in what is their best start since joining the League of Ireland back in 2015.

“We learnt from last week. And we’ve learnt from last year. We have a lot of young lads in the squad. It is difficult with a small squad; we’ve a lot of injuries.

"But I’m really pleased that we bounced back after the Limerick defeat last week. It wasn’t pretty by any stretch of the imagination against Galway. But we got the three points. It’s a get sign that we can dig in and get the win.”

He continued “Galway weren’t bad at all. They may feel unlucky going home that they didn’t get anything from the game. And get at least a point. We were the same last week against Limerick.

"We’ve got the three points this time, so it’s very pleasing. I’m thrilled because it was a really tough game. It was tough in the second half. They came out and gave it a real go.”

There was a buzz around Stradbrook on Friday. That was down to the special guest of honour.

“When you have somebody of the calibre of Michael D. Higgins – the President of our country – it’s unbelievable that we can attract somebody like that to our humble home.

"When I saw all the people behind the scenes doing the work that had to be done to host an occasion like that, it was fantastic,” Devlin declared.
