Pat Devlin says Cabinteely’s first win in eight games was well overdue. Marty Waters scored twice as Cabinteely beat Athlone Town 2-0 at Stradbrook on Saturday night to lift themselves up to fourth place in the First Division table. “We needed a win as we’d been playing reasonably well,” said Cabinteely boss Devlin. “We got the win and that’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.” Waters took the captain’s armband from Jason Byrne who had to go off injured after just 11 minutes. Winger Waters then produced a man-of-the-match display, finally putting Cabo deservedly ahead from a 58th minute penalty before tapping home the second goal in stoppage time. “Marty was the difference. He did well, the way he plays,” said Devo. “The Galvin twins did well in the middle of the park as well. It’s a clean sheet and it pushes us up there. “We’ve now a couple of games before the break and hopefully we can just keep going and see where it takes us.” But veteran striker Byrne is likely to feature until after it. “It’s a bad groin strain,” confirmed Devlin of Byrne's injury.  “Whatever happened, the ball bounced up and he went for it and he just twisted everything. “He’ll be out for a couple of weeks at least.”
