Cork City winger Stephen Dooley believes the club has enough strength and depth in the squad to cope with the loss of Sean Maguire and Kevin O’Connor.

The duo are set to swap Cork for Preston North End at the end of the month having agreed deals with the championship side.

Sunday’s narrow 1-0 victory against St Patricks Athletic, which saw City extended their lead at the top of the division to 12 points, was their last league match at Turners Cross.

And speaking to reporters shortly after full time, Stephen Dooley admitted their departure will be a big blow but he believes there is enough quality in the side to land the league title.

“When you lose arguably your two best players it’s going to have a huge impact,” claimed Dooley.

“Seanie (Maguire) gets us out of trouble so many times. Earlier in the season, I can’t even remember how many times he did it, he’s just at a different level and he deserves his move the same with Kev (O’Connor).

“It’s going to be very tough going forward but we do have enough quality in the squad so we are just going to have to get on with it.

“We have built a nice lead so hopefully we can hang in there and get the job done.

“We have quality players to bring in. We rested Gearoid Morrissey and Greg Bolger today and we brought in Kieran Sadlier and Conor McCarthy so it didn’t weaken the team.

“We have got that good a squad which is absolutely great. Sadlier’s come in and he’s gelled straight away, he’s going to be a very good addition going forward.”
