Dundalk secured their place in the Irish Daily Mail FAI Cup last 16 after a 4-0 drubbing over Derry City on Sunday night at Oriel Park.

On the scoresheet was Derry native Michael Duffy, who was thrilled with how his side performed against an in-form Candystripes side.

“We knew it was going to be tough. Both of us have been in good form for the last few weeks and we are just delighted now to get through to the next round. Everyone was good tonight,” he explained.

Stephen Kenny’s outfit dominated affairs and took the lead early on in the encounter through John Mountney, with Duffy himself providing a constant threat to the Derry goal.

“We started the game brilliantly, we had so many chances. I think it was me who had all the chances and I was getting a bit frustrated there in the first half.”

The Lilywhites doubled their lead shortly after the break and added another from the penalty spot before Duffy capped off a fine performance with a well deserved goal.

“I was delighted to get on the score sheet in the end, I probably would have been a bit annoyed if I didn’t score tonight.”

The sides meet again next week, this time in the SSE Airtricity League. Duffy is hoping for a repeat result.

“Derry are pretty close to us, so it’s a must win next week again.”

He concluded: “We won 4-0 tonight and everyone was brilliant so we will take that in to next week.”
