Despite an unbeaten start to the season and second series of games thus far Michael Duffy felt Dundalk were left to rue the missed chances against Derry City on Friday nights draw in the SSE Airtricity League.

The Derry native has scored six goals and contributed six assists in twelve games so far this season.

“We are a bit disappointed after the game, we just needed to get past the first five to ten minutes of the second half we would have come through the match as I thought we were the better team.” responded Duffy following the draw last night against his home town side.  “Derry is a good team and it was a tough game, obviously we didn’t lose so we will take a point out of it.

Kenny Shiels has been lauded for his style of play with a young dynamic side, something Duffy noticed during the course of the game.

“Obviously teams play differently and Derry play great football and we worked on how to play against them and we got a lot of chances from the way they play and we could have been a few up really so we are a bit disappointed in that way.”

A big moment in the second half was when Duffy broke free of the Derry defence but in the tackles that followed it looked as if a penalty had been awarded, Duffy however felt they had chances of their own to win the game.

“I wasn’t really sure, I just took a touch and I didn’t really see him tackle and I don’t know what happened I just fell over, I don’t know if it was a penalty or not but we had a couple of great chances in the second half it was just disappointing we didn’t get the goals.”

On the 9th of March, Dundalk finally got the better over Cork City in a tense affair in Oriel Park, Duffy’s focus is now on Turners cross and knows the importance of that win in March is going into next weeks game.

“Last year we didn’t beat them at all so we got the better of them this year in the first game and we are in great form, we didn’t win tonight but we are unbeaten so we will go in there confident.

“We broke it here this year because they beat us down here as well so we are in good form and go down there and get the win as well.”
