Dundalk secured a UEFA Europa League play-off spot thanks to a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over Sheriff Tiraspol.

The Lilywhites will now face Faroese side KÍ in the play-off on Thursday, October 1 at the Aviva Stadium, with kick-off at 7.30pm.

The Moldovan outfit took an early lead through a Veaceslav Posmac header from a corner in the eighth-minute.

But from then on, Dundalk were the team in the ascendency and definitely levelled before the break thanks to Sean Murray's fantastic header.

After a goalless second-half and extra-time, Dundalk slotted home all of their penalties whilst Gary Rogers saved Faith Obilor's effort to claim an incredible victory and to put the SSE Airtricity League Champions in sight of the UEFA Europa League group stages.
