SSE Airtricity League reporter Ciaran Callan spoke to Dundalk striker Ciaran Kilduff following the 2-1 win over Shamrock Rovers... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Ciaran Kilduff marked his return to Oriel Park with goal which proved to be vital in the win over Shamrock Rovers, the Dundalk striker scored some historic goals last season and took his pre season form with him into league action with a powerful headed goal in the second half. Reflecting on the game the Kilcock man spoke of the importance of the win despite a late rally from their Tallaght opponents “We were in a good position at 2-0 up but then we put ourselves under a bit of pressure, the skip went off he was excellent all night and we know we need to do the simple things right from now on. “We show great character tonight, we got over the line with three points, its a good start and its what we aimed to do at the start of the night." With doubts casted on the side following close season departures, Kilduff cited the importance of players who have worked hard to progress into the first team. “It takes time to get into such a set and established side, this is probably the first time there has been wholesale exits in the side. “Robbie Benson showed in his Europa League exploits that he could step up, he will continue to do so and get better and he already has. “We also have also the quality of O’Donnell and Chris Shields to come back and of course McEleney.”  Ciaran Kilduff spent a lot of last season on the treatment table following two big injuries and it looked like he was cursed again last week but he shook it off to score this evening. “I hate going on about injuries because I am cursed with them, I got a nasty gash last week that needed stitches. “The manager was so eager for me to fit and play." Like the other players the focus is now on Sligo next week and he knows Dundalk are in for a tough challenge “They will have a big crowd out at the Showgrounds, it will be a tough game,” stated the Dundalk striker. “You can’t really read too much into the start of the season, Sligo have signed well they have played some good football last season, they really look like they are going to go places."
