It was a tale of two goals this week for Dundalk midfielder Jordan Flores. The close-season signing was quoted by team-mate Sean Murray as having a ‘sweet left-foot’ and he showed it with real venom on Monday night in the Regional Sports Centre when a 25-yard unstoppable effort opened his goal scoring account. On Friday night against Derry, when it looked as if another attacking play was about to break down, the finesse of his left foot struck again when a clever pass to Hoban ensured the striker made no mistake. “It’s good that I am getting involved and contributing to the goals and hopefully it will continue. Obviously its a bit of a downer tonight to have not won the game but we have not lost it so we move on and Friday and we get the three points that are there.” Flores came on a substitute for the injured Jamie McGrath who is out for a number of weeks for a foot injury, an opportunity Flores is hoping to make the most of. “Jamie is obviously a very good player and he will be missed when he is not in the team but that is what the squad is for and hopefully me and a couple of the other lads will step in for him and we will do a good job hopefully.” Flores joined from Wigan Athletic and was well received by his home town club. Former Sligo Rovers manager who is now manager at the Latics wishes him all the best the day Dundalk announced this capture. What was is that drew Flores to Ireland? One word that brought a real ambitious tone to Flores words…Europe. “Dundalk is a massive club and one of the biggest clubs in Ireland and obviously this year we are in the Champions League qualifiers, hopefully we can get into the group stage of of the Europa League. "In England in the lower levels that I have played in, I would never ever get a chance to do that. And the squad that we have here to compete in Europe it tells itself.” Is Europe really that big of a motivation? It seems to really be. “Course it is, it’s that next level but we won’t take our eye off the ball and that’s the league and that’s what we need to consistency keep going like they have done in the past six years. Winning leagues is what Dundalk do and hopefully we will continue that.” Two trips on the road face the Lilywhites now for Dundalk and Flores and he knows that the games will take care of themselves if Dundalk do their work right. “Every week is a tough week, the standard has gone up so I have heard in the last few seasons. The games will just coming and hopefully we will push on.”
