The Football Association of Ireland is saddened to learn of the tragic death of former staff member Andy Needham last weekend.

Needham worked as Media & Public Relations Officer for the league in the Merrion Square days and was popular with colleagues and those who he worked with around the game and industry.

A native of Rathfarnham, Dublin, Andy later served the United Nations from March 2008 where he was deployed to Nairobi as a media officer with the Irish Aid Rapid Response Corps. He went on to become Associate Communications and Public Information Officer at UNHCR where his work highlighted the important humanitarian work done in difficult situations in refugee camps across numerous countries including Kenya, Somalia and Jordan.

His sudden death at the weekend comes as a shock to all who knew Andy and who worked with him. The thoughts of the Association are with Andy's family, his wife Tabitha Mutie, daughter Chessie and friends at this sad time.

May he rest in peace.
