Galway United and Shelbourne compete remarkable comebacks

Round 8 of the 2026 SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division delivered the night of the season so far at Eamonn Deacy Park where Galway United came from behind to beat Athlone Town 2-1 in front of the TG4 cameras.

Remini Tillotson levelled in the 88th minute before Niamh Farrelly rose to head home a last minute winner, ending the champions’ unbeaten start and sending Phil Trill’s side three points clear at the summit.

Galway United 2-1 Athlone Town

Alexis Strickland put the champions in front two minutes before half-time, and when Kellie Brennan was dismissed on 67 minutes Athlone faced the second half a player short and clinging to a one-goal lead.

Galway turned the screw and were rewarded in the 88th minute when Remini Tillotson levelled it under the lights. Three minutes into stoppage time Niamh Farrelly rose to head home and send Eamonn Deacy Park into celebration.

The 2-1 win for Galway United hands Athlone Town their first defeat of the 2026 season and sends Galway United three points clear at the top of the table with eight games played.

Peamount United 2-4 Shelbourne

Eleanor Ryan-Doyle struck inside four minutes to put Peamount United ahead, and when Aoife O’Connor made it 2-0 on 39 minutes, the Peas looked to be going into the break with the lead, although Shelbourne’s Olivia Damico struck in the 43rd minute and straight after to send the teams in level at the break.

Shelbourne carried that momentum into the second half where Brianne Severns put the visitors ahead for the first time on 52 minutes, and Becky Watkins sealed it on 66’ to complete a remarkable comeback. The win keeps Shelbourne firmly in third on 17 points.

Sligo Rovers 4-0 Cork City

Sligo Rovers were rampant at The Showgrounds with the game effectively over by half time. Sydney Stephens opened the scoring after 18 minutes, Cara King doubled it just four minutes later and then Anna McDaniel made it three in the 35th minute.

Stephens grabbed her second of the night shortly after to send Sligo Rovers in four to the good at the break, and the second half played out without further goals.

Bohemians 0-0 Waterford

A scoreless afternoon in Phibsborough as Bohemians and Waterford shared the spoils at Dalymount Park.

Neither side could find a breakthrough across the 90 minutes, with the point lifting Bohs to 6 points and Waterford up to 11th. Both sides remain in search of momentum as the season moves into its second third.

Treaty United 1-1 Wexford

Ciara Breslin put Treaty United in front in the 37th minute at Markets Field, only for Megan Smyth-Lynch to hit back on the stroke of half-time.

The 45th-minute equaliser sent the sides in level at the break, and neither could find a winner.

The draw leaves Treaty on 11 points in sixth, with Wexford up to 10 points in seventh and just a single point off Treaty and Sligo Rovers on goal difference.

Shamrock Rovers 2-0 DLR Waves

It was productive afternoon for Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium and Ella Kelly in particular.

Katie O’Reilly opened the scoring on 15 minutes from a Kelly assist, and Jaime Thompson doubled the lead in the 66th minute, again teed up by Kelly. James O’Callaghan’s side stay fourth on 14 points and crucially still have a game in hand.
